Steel garage doors offer the broadest range of design insulation and price options. Kits start around 50 and as they increase in price often. Use 1 1 2 inch thick insulation for doors with metal framing and 2 inch thick material for doors without it. Steel doors can be insulated or non insulated.

Alternatively use two layers of thinner material and glue the second layer to the first. The garage sub will upsize the track and hardware for the added weight. The steel skins are protected by the use of a tough layered coating system which includes a hot dipped galvanized layer and baked on primer and top coat. The 1 layer raised panel steel construction provides durability and style.

Garage door insulation options include 2 or 1 3 8 intellicore polyurethane 2 1 3 8 1 5 16 polystyrene. Added strength is provided by the outer steel skins. The simplest way to insulate a garage door is with a kit containing either vinyl or foil faced batts or foil faced rigid foam boards.
