This camera uses a 1 3 v mercury battery to power its exposure meter.

A common complaint with used yashica mat 124 124g cameras is that that meter is inoperative.
Thankfully the battery in yashica mat 124g only powers the light meter unlike my yashica electro.
We have installed a fresh 1 5v battery for the light meter.
Why some people put in 1 5v batteries is beyond me.
Repace with a wein px635 which is the same voltage.
The right hand side of the yashica mat 124g is simple.

Open the battery compartment cover holding with finger and by turning it counter clockwise.

Having only 12 frames to fill in a roll is also a positive thing for me because i can fill it up quickly then send it to develop.
